DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW

The Davis Instruments 7720 Rain Collector Heater is used in cold climates to measure freezing rain or the moisture content of snowfall (equivalent precipitation). Without the heater, frozen precipitation is not measured until it melts.

The Davis Weather 7720 requires access to AC power; may not be run using a solar power kit. Includes 24-watt, 24-volt heater with thermal cut-off switch, control unit, insulating reflective blanket, and AC-power adapter. Includes 50' cable.

NOTE: THE 7720 RAIN COLLECTOR HEATER IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE DAVIS INSTRUMENTS AEROCONE RAIN COLLECTOR.

For Users with the AeroCone Rain Collector, you may purchase the compatible Davis Instruments 7721 Rain Collector Cone and Heater.

Hard to do review, since weather has not allowed for the heater to melt ice or snow yet. I have had the basic product on my rain collector for over 20 years. Old one died finally and had to be replaced. My only issue was the length of the cord from collector to plug assembly. I tried to find longer 100ft cord at web site, but only offered 4 wire. Mine came with 50ft 2 wires. Since I already had the wiring from the old system which is underground, I used it. So I have great faith in the product and the company. I will keep in touch.

Easily installed. Don't know how effective it is yet. The ambient temps have not been low enough to need it. In a month or two I will know the results.

I wasn't prepared for the exterior location I had to use to set-up the heater's transformer, but then I also hadn't anticipated the need, caused by the sudden arrival of a winter storm in October, to install it so soon.
